My Favourite Kind of Walk
Enjoying the journey without a destination.
In my late 20s I’ve really come to enjoy just going for a walk, and often the best kind of walk is one with no planned destination, no route in mind. Just one foot in front of the other, watching the world go by around me.
There’s endless interesting things to witness when you’re open to them: a stranger’s outfit as they pass by, blooming flowers offering a cloud of aromas to walk through, giant clouds rolling overhead whose sheer grandeur makes you feel ever so small, creatures chirping out of view only to fall silent as you move near.
I really like to dawdle when I walk; as slow of a stroll as I can manage without looking too inebriated so I don’t concern the locals. I find walking fast makes it hard to appreciate the complexity of novelties that surround me.
Walking also serves as a fantastic tool for thinking. If you’re ever stuck, go for a wander. Increased blood flow and respiration means that movement of the feet are directly linked to movement of the mind; great for clearing out any blocks you may be facing. I swear, good for the mind, body and soul. Plus, you might discover a part of your neighbourhood you never knew existed, and that’s pretty cool too!
